The Jim Mastry Father’s Day Trophy

Published by Admin on

“…Dads are most ordinary men, turned by love into hero’s,
adventurers, story tellers and ultimately catchers of big fish.”

Jim Mastry, the namesake of the STR Father’s Day Trophy, spent more than 50 years tarpon fishing, and competing in the Suncoast Tarpon Roundup. Reflecting on his legacy, several things come to mind. Jim Mastry was a devoted father and a generous man.  He enjoyed taking his own children, nieces and nephews, family friends children tarpon fishing, and because of his support of the Junior Division – those youngsters grew up and continue his legacy today.

This weekend, the Suncoast Tarpon Roundup would like to say thank you to all fathers who fish the STR and who have taught their kids about fishing and the environment.

The Jim Mastry Father’s Day Trophy is up for grabs Sunday, June 21st, and will be won by the Angler reporting the most releases in 24 hours. Good luck anglers!

Edit: Congratulations to Jeff Owens for winning this year’s Jim Mastry’s Fathers Day trophy! Great Job Jeff!!
